# Create and check a simulation mesh

> Resolve the important physics while preserving material regions and boundary assignments.

Ask Adam to mesh the analysis geometry for a named solver and study. A surface mesh that looks smooth may still have poor elements, missing regions, or incorrect boundaries for the solver.

## Specify the mesh requirements

Provide the source revision, units, solver, physics, and quantity of interest. Name thin regions, fillets, interfaces, or boundary layers that need attention. If you have an existing mesh, provide it and its quality report before requesting a rebuild.

```text title="Mesh a structural analysis copy" wrap theme={null}
Mesh the prepared housing for [solver] and the agreed structural study. Choose element type and order appropriate to the model. Refine the mounting pads and rib junctions locally. Preserve the named load, support, and material regions. Report node and element counts, solver-specific quality checks, failed regions, and boundary membership after export.
```

## Check the exported mesh

**1. Check scale and coverage**

Confirm the envelope, material regions, connectivity, and intended solid or fluid domain.

**2. Check element or cell quality**

Use the selected solver's metrics and supported element types. Locate failed regions so they can be repaired.

**3. Check boundary mappings**

Confirm required groups are nonempty and on the expected surfaces. Recheck after remeshing or topology changes.

**4. Read the solver input back**

Where a checker or parser is available, inspect the exported input rather than relying only on the mesher's display.

## Refine against the result

A larger mesh is useful only when it improves resolution of the relevant response. Compare displacement, pressure drop, stress at a defined location, or another chosen quantity across refinements while holding the physical inputs fixed.

```text title="Plan a mesh sensitivity check" wrap theme={null}
Create a refinement plan for this study within [time budget]. Keep geometry, material, loads, and output definitions fixed. Compare [quantity of interest] across the meshes, recording element or cell counts, quality, solve status, and the change in the measured result. Do not declare convergence from mesh count alone.
```

For CFD, include near-wall resolution and its compatibility with the wall treatment. For local structural stress, investigate whether a reported peak reflects a singularity before using it as a refinement target.
