# Connect Autodesk Inventor

> Connect Inventor on Windows to inspect and edit native parts and assemblies.

Connect Autodesk Inventor to read the active document, edit parametric parts and assemblies, run Inventor API scripts, capture the viewport, and exchange CAD files. The Inventor bridge is bundled with the Desktop Connector.

## Before you begin

Use a Windows PC with Inventor installed and licensed. Open the intended document and make sure its referenced files are available. No separate plug-in installation is required for the bundled Inventor bridge.

## Connect

**1. Pair the Inventor workstation**

In Adam, open **Integrations > Autodesk Inventor** and follow [Desktop Connector setup](https://docs.adam.new/integrations/desktop-connector.md#pair-a-workstation). Reuse the existing pairing if this workstation is already connected to your account.

**2. Open the target document**

Keep Inventor and the connector running on the same Windows PC. Open the part or assembly you want Adam to inspect.

**3. Confirm the connection and document**

Check the integration's application status and run the read-only request below before making changes.

```text title="Check the Inventor document" wrap theme={null}
Inspect the active Inventor document without making changes. Report its name, document type, units, and any unresolved references or existing update errors you can read. For an assembly, identify the component I should target before editing a part.
```

## Use the connection

For a parametric edit, name the part or assembly component, the parameter or feature, and the required value. Ask Adam to update the document and verify the resulting dimensions. See [CAD modeling](https://docs.adam.new/cad/modeling.md) for an example, or [batch operations](https://docs.adam.new/cad/batch-operations.md) for a controlled export workflow.

## If it does not connect

* **The device is online but Inventor is unavailable:** open Inventor and its document on the paired Windows PC, then recheck the application's status.
* **An assembly has missing references:** resolve the referenced files in Inventor before asking Adam to change dependent geometry.
* **Adam has the wrong target:** name the document and component explicitly and repeat the inspection.
* **A task stopped during an edit:** inspect the current model before repeating the change.

For pairing and shared-task ownership, see [Desktop Connector troubleshooting](https://docs.adam.new/integrations/desktop-connector.md#if-an-application-is-offline).
