# Connect Solid Edge

> Set up the preview Solid Edge connection on Windows and verify access to a representative document.

The Solid Edge connection provides tools to inspect the active document, run Solid Edge Automation scripts, and capture the viewport. Its bridge is bundled with the Desktop Connector.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Solid Edge is a preview connection. Native workflows are awaiting qualification on a licensed Solid Edge installation. Check the requested operation on a representative copy before adopting it for your workflow.

## Before you begin

Use a Windows PC with Solid Edge installed and licensed. Prepare a copy of a representative part, assembly, or drawing for your first connection check. No separate plug-in installation is required for the bundled bridge.

## Connect

**1. Pair the Solid Edge workstation**

In Adam, open **Integrations > Solid Edge** and follow [Desktop Connector setup](https://docs.adam.new/integrations/desktop-connector.md#pair-a-workstation). Reuse the existing pairing if this workstation is already connected to your Adam account.

**2. Open the representative document**

Keep Solid Edge and the connector running on the same Windows PC. Open the copy you intend to use for the check.

**3. Check document access**

Verify the application's connection status and use the read-only request below. A paired device alone does not confirm that Solid Edge or the requested operation is ready.

```text title="Check the Solid Edge preview connection" wrap theme={null}
Inspect the active Solid Edge document without making changes. Report the application version, document name and type, and what document information you can read. Capture the current viewport if available. Describe any unsupported or unavailable operation without attempting an edit.
```

## Try a representative workflow

Once read access works, choose one small operation on the copy and define its expected result before running it. Inspect the native document afterward and retain the task output if the operation fails. Use [CAD modeling](https://docs.adam.new/cad/modeling.md) for a change-and-verification checklist.

## If it does not connect

* **The device is online but Solid Edge is unavailable:** open Solid Edge and its document on the paired Windows PC, then check the application's status.
* **A tool cannot read or change the document:** retain the application version, document type, requested operation, and error for [support](https://docs.adam.new/resources/troubleshooting.md).
* **An operation stopped partway through:** inspect the document before retrying.

For workstation replacement or task-owner routing, see [Desktop Connector troubleshooting](https://docs.adam.new/integrations/desktop-connector.md#if-an-application-is-offline).
